March 19 Parent Update

Dear NCS Families,

As many of you know, earlier today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidance indicating that schools would be allowed to distance students at 3 feet as opposed to 6. (Note: The change was anchored in part in results from a notable Massachusetts-based study.) The announcement was welcome news, and it would likely give schools like NCS the ability to bring increased numbers of students back for in-person learning.

At this point, however, New York State has not yet given local Departments of Health (DOH) the ability to authorize modifications to guidelines that are currently in place.

Over the weekend, you will likely see news stories making predictions about what changes are coming and when they will occur. Please know that many of them will be speculative in nature, and that we will communicate accurate information as soon as we have more detailed guidance from the DOH. Until that point, we will continue actively reviewing what changes would be needed with regard to scheduling, spacing, transporting, etc. in order to bring all interested UPK-12 students back for 5 days of in-person learning each week.

Be well and make sure to enjoy the warmth and sunshine this weekend.
